Dutch snacks, sauces and fries toppings

Fries with mayonnaise is a Dutch institution, and the sauce shelf proves it. Remia Fritessauce Classic is the slightly sweeter, lighter alternative to mayonnaise that you find in almost every snack bar, while Van Wijngaarden Zaanse mayonnaise and Oliehoorn sauces are favourites too. Gouda's Glorie offers curry sauce, burger sauce and honey mustard in catering sizes. Indonesian influences are part of Dutch cooking as well: Calvé ready-to-eat satay sauce and Conimex sambal oelek are staples for saté and nasi.

Licorice, sweets and stroopwafels

Dutch licorice is a national passion, sweet or salty. Venco licorice coins, Red Band winegums and sour briquettes and Fortuin Wilhelmina peppermints fill the candy jar. For coffee time, Daelmans mini caramel stroopwafels, thin waffles with a caramel syrup filling, are perfect with a cup of Douwe Egberts, and Lu Bastogne biscuits are another classic.

Dutch breakfast and drinks

A typical Dutch breakfast includes bread with chocolate sprinkles called hagelslag. De Ruijter dark chocolate flakes in single portions are ideal for hotels and B&Bs, and Calvé peanut butter is loved by children. Wash it down with Chocomel chocolate milk, Pickwick tea or a glass of Karvan Cévitam lemonade made from syrup.
